Seven Democratic States in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is divided into seven major administrative divisions called States. Each state is named after the major city within its jurisdiction district that serves as the administrative capital of that State:

Democratic State of Barisal (বরিশাল|Borishal)

Democratic State of Chittagong (চট্টগ্রাম|Chôţţogram)

Democratic State of Dhaka (ঢাকা|Đhaka)

Democratic State of Khulna (খুলনা|Khulna)

Democratic State of Rajshahi (রাজশাহী|Rajshahi)

Democratic State of Rangpur (রংপুর|Rongpur)

Democratic State of Sylhet (সিলেট|Sileţ)
Each State is further split into Districts which are then further sub-divided into Upazilas, and Upazila is further divided into Unions which is lowest democratic administrative division in Bangladesh consist with few villages.

Three more divisions have been proposed to be state ease down administrative work load due to population increase:

Chittagong Hill Tracts Division (পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রাম|Parbotto Chôţţogram) - proposed to contain the eastern districts of the existing Chittagong Division;

Mymensingh Division (ময়মনসিংহ|Moymonsing)- proposed to contain the northern districts of the existing Dhaka Division; and
-
Comilla Division (কুমিল্লা|Kumilla) - proposed to contain the northern districts of the existing Chittagong Division.
